Privacy Policy
MathDB is a public site for open mathematical research problems, operated by MathDB. We use Google Analytics on the production site to understand visits and interactions. We do not sell your personal information.
What we store
- An opaque Clerk user ID, your username, and any display name, picture, biography or profile links you add. Sign-in is handled by Clerk, so your email address and password never reach MathDB’s servers or database.
- Everything you post — problems, solutions, comments, tags, references — publicly, attributed to your username.
- Your votes and bookmarks. Bookmarks and individual votes are private; follows, and vote and view totals, are public.
- Standard server logs (IP address, user agent, URL, timestamp) kept by our host.
- When you connect an assistant, OAuth client-registration and token records, problem-download quota records, and the identity of the assistant that submitted a contribution. The connector does not request or store your assistant conversation.
A Clerk session cookie keeps you signed in, and your light/dark theme choice is stored in your browser. On the production site, the Google tag sends visit and interaction data, browser and device details, approximate location, and online identifiers to Google Analytics. MathDB does not run production analytics on the development site.
Who else processes it
| Provider | Purpose | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Clerk | Authentication | Your email address, password or third-party sign-in identity, and profile details. |
| Amazon Web Services | Hosting and database | Everything stored by MathDB, plus standard server logs. Hosted in the United States. |
| Amazon Bedrock | Search indexing | The title and statement of each problem, sent once to compute a search embedding. |
| Cloudflare | Frontend hosting | Standard request details used to serve MathDB. |
| Google Analytics | Production-site analytics | Visit and interaction data, browser and device details, approximate location, and online identifiers. |
The title and statement of every problem are sent to Amazon Bedrock to compute the embedding behind search and related problems. Only that public text is sent. MathDB is hosted in the United States.
Deleting things
You can delete your own posts at any time, and admin@mathdb.com will delete your account or answer any request to access, correct or export your data. Two limits: moderation records outlive the content they concern — a removal or block keeps an excerpt, the reason and who acted — and copies others made under the open licence stay lawful.
How long we keep it
Public contributions remain until you delete them. Profile, vote, bookmark, follow, account-linked connector token and quota records remain while your MathDB account exists and are deleted with the account, except for the moderation records described above. Assistant client registrations remain until that integration is revoked or decommissioned. Access tokens expire after 12 hours and refresh tokens after 90 days; disconnecting the connector revokes them sooner. Infrastructure request logs are retained for 30 days. Our analytics providers retain data under the settings and policies linked above; you can block analytics with your browser’s tracking controls without affecting the connector.
Changes
We update this page when the site changes; the effective date above is the current one.
