A variety is said to be of CM type when it has the complex multiplication property described in the surrounding theory. Piatetski-Shapiro–Shafarevich conjecture. Varieties of CM type are defined over number fields. This conjecture concerns the arithmetic of varieties with complex multiplication; in the paper it is cited as a conjecture of Piatetski-Shapiro and Shafarevich and is applied to rank-21 cubic fourfolds.
