The Whitehead group conjecture for torsionfree groups

Let GG be a group and let Wh(G)\operatorname{Wh}(G) denote its Whitehead group. The Whitehead group conjecture. If GG is torsionfree, then Wh(G)\operatorname{Wh}(G) vanishes. This would imply that every homotopy equivalence between finite CWCW-complexes with fundamental group GG is simple; the source gives no resolution status.
