Burnett's backward conjecture on realizing Einstein–massless Vlasov solutions
Consider solutions of the Einstein--massless Vlasov system, consisting of the Einstein equations coupled to a suitable massless Vlasov field. A high-frequency limit is a limit of vacuum spacetimes in which the vacuum gravitational fields oscillate on scales tending to zero.
Burnett's backward conjecture. Every sufficiently regular solution to the Einstein--massless Vlasov system arises as a high-frequency limit of vacuum spacetimes.
This is the converse of Burnett's forward conjecture and asks whether every admissible effective massless matter configuration can be generated by high-frequency vacuum gravitational waves. The supplied text presents it as an open conjecture without stating a resolution.
