Projectivity characterization for restrictions from G to H

Let GG be the ambient group, let HH be the subgroup, and let π\pi be an irreducible representation of GG. The restriction πH\pi|_H is the representation of HH obtained from π\pi by restricting the action to HH.

Projectivity conjecture. The restriction πH\pi|_H is projective if and only if π\pi is supercuspidal.

This conjecture asks whether projectivity of the restriction to HH exactly characterizes supercuspidal representations of GG. The surrounding discussion notes that restrictions of supercuspidal representations are known to be projective, while the converse is the proposed assertion; the parser supplies no evidence of resolution.
