Hedden's Whitehead-doubling sliceness conjecture
Hedden's Whitehead-doubling sliceness conjecture
Let be a knot, and let denote its positive or negative clasped, untwisted Whitehead double. Hedden's Whitehead-doubling conjecture. The knot is smoothly slice if and only if is smoothly slice. The forward implication is an open question generalising the sliceness questions for Whitehead doubles of the left-handed trefoil and figure-eight knot; the reverse implication is immediate from the satellite construction.
