Let denote unexpectedness in Simplicity Theory, with causal or generative complexity describing the world and description complexity describing the observer. Let generative entropy refer to the entropy associated with the world’s causal processes, and let descriptive variety refer to the variety represented by the observer. Entropy–variety divergence conjecture. Unexpectedness, at systemic level, captures a divergence between the (generative) entropy of the world and the (descriptive) variety of the observer. This conjecture connects unexpectedness to a systemic comparison between world-generation and observer-description, extending the framework beyond individual situations.
