The infinitude conjecture for Mersenne primes

A Mersenne prime is a prime number of the form

p=2q1p=2^q-1

with qq prime. Mersenne-prime infinitude conjecture. There are infinitely many Mersenne primes.

This conjecture is used to obtain the paper's conditional result for the Legendre elliptic surface; it is a longstanding open problem.
