The very small maximal Cohen–Macaulay module conjecture

Let RR be a complete local ring. An MCM module is very small if its multiplicity is at most the equi-parameter degree of RR.

Very small MCM conjecture. Every complete local ring admits a very small MCM.

This strengthens the small MCM existence problem, and is automatic for local Cohen–Macaulay rings. Its status in general is open.
