Kobayashi's ample canonical bundle conjecture for projective hyperbolic manifolds

Let $X$ be a projective hyperbolic manifold. Kobayashi's conjecture. The canonical bundle $K_X$ is ample. This is a necessary-condition prediction related to the Green–Griffiths–Lang framework; the source says it is obvious for curves but not known in general, and already nontrivial in dimension two.
